What to do if you are bullied
The character in Bully, Darrell, was being bullied by someone from his high school, Tyray. Darrell was new to the school and didn't have any friends to turn to.
What happened?
He allowed Tyray to push him around, steal his clothes and take his money. Darrell joined the wrestling team, gained confidence and in the the end fought back agains the bully. Darrell felt that he did not have support to speak out earlier but because of his success with the wrestling team, inspiration he got from a book and a girl girl named Amberlynn Darrell was able to stick up for the cafeteria worker when Darrell started to harass her. Darrell uses some of his wrestling moves and defeats Tyray in the end.
What should have happened....
Darrell should have confided in his English teacher, his mom or his uncle when the problem first started. Bullies get and keep their power only if the victims do not speak out. Even though he was scared and embarrassed, he should have told someone from the beginning. Reading this book has helped me to see that asking for help is not always 'wimping out'. It is taking the power back from the bullies.

Darrell fights off the bully
Darrell is a character in one of the books that we have been reading and he has been bullied by Tyray. Darrel did not know what to do and said nothing to his Mom and his teachers. He thought that he was by himself because he was new to California. He allowed Tyray to pick on him everyday and even would up paying him off each week. Darrell did not know that the only way to fight off a bully is to let everyone know what he is doing. Darrell put up with Tyray's stunts until Tyray started picking on the cafeteria worker and then he fought Tyray and won. He had joined the wrestling team and got stronger and Tyray messing with the Cafeteria worker was the last straw. Darrell should have gotten help BEFORE it resulted in a fight. He didn't want to seem like a tattle-tell so he didn't tell anyone. The right thing for him to do was to show everyone how cruel Tyray was and then letting the school deal with him. I know that sometimes fighting seems like the right move but it isn't.
